So I wrote earlier this week that I would post something, concerning things I already dug up earlier. But this week I also read the amazing 4-part ancient spooks series again, which took a bite out of my spare time. Anyways lets just add something easy, concerning the nuclear hoax. The hoax that others like Miles have already sufficiently exposed of course, but since nobody is posting here much, maybe I can add a humble bit. So obviously in the 1950's and 60's the nuclear threat was all the rage. And the storytellers were fleshing it out in every possible way. Some of these stories were in hindsight rather crappy. But they were published and for now they are stuck with it. It seems the scriptwriters were considering putting nuclear tags on pretty much anything. What about these two: The US Army M65 280mm Atomic Annie gun. IIRC it only shot a live fake round once, May 25, 1953. And they have only one bit of footage about it. they are obviously rehashing and tuning this footage over time, so I made this comparison image: Other strange things are these vertical smoke trails which are supposed to be warning signals, but it is rather pointless to fire those that late in relation to the blast. Also the sound of the blast is too early in some of the versions of the footage. But it is inserted sound anyways. Lastly, in some versions of the same footage they decided to make the foreground shake. So what would be the smallest nuclear bomb? Maybe this one: Operation Little Feller I and II: Davey Crockett Nuclear Missile system (1962, July 7 and 17).
