Probably more focused on building superyachts. I dunno is there even still meant to be a war going on over there? It is certainly good to be out of the news cycle and with @swathy just spitting the dummy on his blog then it looks like I am out of the whole Mathis fear porn research circle too, which is another long overdue and blessed relief.

I have these occasions where I am just reading about military production history and then thinking about it. With the background that east and west were in cahoots at the top levels, and that nuclear weapons are a hoax, all the given reasons for these millitary investments are a poor excuse. So I am trying to get a better idea of what was actually going on in the cold war and such. It seems plausible the Soviet Union was never a match for the western military machine, but it had to appear like a strong enemy, to justify huge expenditures. With 'appearing' being a flexible term, because with submarines and nukes, hardly anything has to actually appear. Up to like 1967 it seems they played the submarine and nuke cards a lot. That is what one would expect them to do. Then there was the Vietnam war, for some reason. Then came the last cold war period around 1975..1989 with big military investments. But suddenly it was decided to dissolve the Soviet Union, so funds got cut on both sides. Also gone was the previous justification. Then instead they had to use a variety of smaller, weirder justifications. It is still like that now. It is an interesting change.

It is all just ways to raise debt and enslave the people. Yeah, war may no longer be their favourite game, but they have found plenty of ways to keep the taxes and national debts rising. How they do it really doesn't matter, in fact national debts barely matter as we have no control. What we can control is us and the morality and decency of those around us. Don't take on the banker debts for them. I think you should have a mortgage or you will be stuck paying someone else's debt to the bankers forever, but try and pass that house on to your family and keep as many of your people away from debt and slavery as you possibly can.
Live with honour driven by the Stoic virtues of wisdom, courage, temperance and justice. All of which should control the differing gifts and keep ego in check, it isn't easy as I can attest to but some people are convinced that glory is the highest goal and that is why they have very weak but huge ego's.

Of course you are right about that. What I was describing is just a strange personal interest, attempting to detail a certain part of history. It is a bit like Miles publishing a paper on a 'scientist': It is often the same, some are complete frauds whilst others are mostly frauds, or variations thereof. But I would still like to read his take on most of them. PS. In this country when parents want to give things like a house or savings to their children, then the government taxation comes knocking. Same with inheritance.

@erwing, we all have strange interests and there is nothing wrong with that. Yeah, as you can probably tell I am getting a bit bored of Miles' takes. I think I am ready to move a bit further up the mountain, rather than going round in the same old circles.
Blimey, just looked Dutch at inheritance rules (my best guess at your nationality) that is really bad. Too many classes and thresholds to go through, but that really makes the place look totally controlled.
UK inheritance tax starts at £325,00 per person, so a couple can pass on £650,000 anything after that is taxed at 40%,, gifts aren't taxed if the gifts are made more that 7 years (I think) before death.
The rich put everything in trust, they are really easy to set up. You can even put your house in trust and then it is outside the jurisdiction of your home country.
