Well yes, those posts were bad, because they made it look exactly like a less literate spookling shift worker had suddenly taken over a shared troll account. One who wasn't willing to do any reading or bother with content, and was barely skilled enough for some random cockiness.
These discussion forums are about discussing content. So those content-less posts look like low-effort provocations: Not reading a paper, instead posting an AI-generated nonsense summary with the word "bum" in it. Then not even using it to ask an actual question but "what do you reckon". Then following up with accusations against Miles out of nothing, ignoring alarmed & appeasing comments from other posters. The old Michael could do much better than that.
So, no matter whether this was a shared troll account or a sudden change in personality, that new self has pretty much blown up all the work of the previous one.

Gerry, Of course Gerry, I have been body snatched or handed my account deets to someone else who must be like me a troll. Not that I have a Word Press account. Just an email address. So, all anyone would need to do to impersonate me would be to use my email address and type Michael in the name field, or for that matter use any email address and type Michael in the name field. That is not what happened. I posted it and I stand by it all. It irritates me when Lewis Reid just post new paper without an explanation. I didn't have time to read 25 pages so thought let's see what co-pilot said. It is coherent for AI and thought "that'll do for an introduction to get people started" so popped it in a comment Big deal, hardly the crime of the century. Then I did think "Hang on, that does look like a promo technique that people legitimately use to show there is new content, so I said it and spotted a funny anagram. Really it isn't that bad. Yeah, it peed me off massively when people started the bilge and saying I was on drugs. So, I reacted None of this is in the slightest out of character. It is just that none of you actually know me. Presumably you think I am only nice, which isn't true. I am generally nice but have not yet got rid of my dark side. I own it, I try but I am flawed and angry. I do have a reputation for burning bridges, that is part of my personality. I get bored ya see, then make jokes or just speak my mind and people often don't know what to make of it. Mind you you guys are the first to call me a spook, though that is one of the nicer things I have been called and at least there are no fists flying yet. Thanks for saying / implying some of my previous work has some merit. I am not so sure there was much of merit in it. Just a lot of questions, but I hope I made people think, that is one thing I think I can do. It is fine there are plenty of bridges in the world, plenty of towns, plenty of people and plenty of things to do and read.

I don’t go to that giant Wordpress haystack any more, unless I’m bored enough to sift around for something interesting. The site is a clusterfuck.

Haystack is a good description, Wordpress is really not well suited to being a quasi forum. I could only follow post made in the last few days and any gems were quickly buried. As the haystack grows it will clog up like CTTF too. Pity really, as a few of the contributors over there are good. |

I don't get the grammar of Swathy's "He already did you jackass troll, to the spam you go henceforth" either. but I think he's referring to Miles' post directed at Michael, somewhere higher up in the thread. this one:
which ends in "BTW, you are turning into quite the troll here, aren’t you? My guess is you don’t last much longer."
And then Michael kept fooling around with humor nobody could understand, even Barbara Franken asked: 'Are you on some kind of drugs?'

Ah, thanks@Gijs - honestly, this is the first time I have seen that response from Miles, it does make more sense of Swathy, It is so difficult to follow a thread over there. I posted on 1 Feb and Miles replied on 10 Feb, so I was mega confused about where Swathy had received their instruction from - at least now I know. Bear with me, as I haven't had time to fully digest Miles' response. I accept my humour is quite absurdist, though Barbara Franken isn't really my target demographic, I guess Benidorm (that is a very poor English sitcom BTW) is more her cup of herbal tea. TBF, I thought the Dutch contingent might appreciate it..... |
