Reading about MM added plenty to a subject I had already been immersed in, chronology.
Maybe more accurately, MISTAKEN chronology. What happen and when did it happen? In two current cases, the situation is getting almost funny, so (I think I am the newest newbie here) let me share.
Currently I have been reading the French author Laurent Guyenot. His new book, AD, is a small but strong take on several of the scholars advancing the theory that the chronology of the current era is off. It might be as few as 300 years or as many as 900 years that add up to "ghost years" that imply the first thousand years of the Christian Era never happened.
The most trusted scientist working this field is the recently deceased German author, Gunnar Heinsohn. Heinsohn trusts only the study of strata in archaeology and notes that most of what we think happened from the fall of the Roman Empire (West) and the era of Charlemagne just plain didn't happen. For reason political, the year 1000 was jumped many years ahead of schedule. Maybe MANY centuries ahead.
Here's a short abstract by Guyenot -- www.unz.com/article/a-short-history-of-civilization/
He includes his prior articles that make up his book, so you can read it without paying Amazon anything.
What makes all this alarming is that -- if it's true, European history has to be brought forward. This may seem like small potatoes, but in yet another area of history, dates might have to be pushed back. Egypt's monuments, especially the Sphinx and pyramids, have been studies by geologists for over 30 years now. The consensus being reached is that the erosion on those monuments is from water, not wind. And the last epoch possible for that was... a few thousand years earlier.
There's some wiggle room but not much. If the Christian Era is newer and the Ancient World is a whole lot older, history simply has a very big problem. It might very well change how people view history.
