I came across this, looks like someone has set up a search to allow the searching of Miles' papers, it is very useful. I can't remember where I originally found it and haven't extensively tested it and can't really figure out quite how it all works. But it would be great to be able to search Miles' papers from this board (as his site doesn't provide such a facility). So is there any chance of putting this search in a sticky so that people can easily look up names etc that Miles has referred to multiple times in papers. For example I have looked up Jesuit to try and get an overview of Miles' opinion on them.

It is a good idea. Though personally I do it like this: I have my local library of his pdf papers, and Foxit PDF reader (old one v4.1.1). Then in that program under the "tools" section, there is "search". It has the field "All pdf documents in:" where you can select that pdf library folder. It won't cause Miles Website any heavy traffic.

Good point, but hopefully this search won't cause his site traffic to be to onerous. If it does he can ask us to take it down.
That is a lot of papers to have downloaded and stored, it was an option I was considering until I found this solution.
I hadn't heard of Foxit pdf reader, I will have to check it out, thanks!

For information, currently my archive from Miles his websites takes up 539 MB, it consists of 736 pdf files. Though this is not entirely accurate as there are some duplicates in my archive because of paper updates. I also happened to come across this post from Ben at cutting through the fog, on a batch method to download all pdf files with this tool curl.se/windows/

erwin That is less space than I imagined, PDF's are really quite efficient. THis search does seem to pick up the HTML stuff too which is nice because I can't even find links to them. The batch download is interesting but unless Miles is really bothered about the bandwidth then I will continue. I don't know how much band width a query takes but it is fast so I can't imagine it takes very much at all. If he wants he can always come here and tell me, as posting on CTTF is just one long pointless shouting into the abyss. I don't know how anyone works with that site.

Suppose my heavy traffic remark can be disregarded. The search method in your first post is indeed very fast, so it is a "cached" search. In general there is always something to say for downloading everything that is really worth it, and keeping an offline copy. As an insurance. Like sometimes there are some worthwhile youtube videos, which I then download with y2mate, a little later the source video was censored and removed. Miles wrote somewhere that he actually advises people to print his papers. Which I do to some degree.

erwin Archiving is why I will stay in touch with you. Not sure why Miles would recommend that we print his papers, notwithstanding that I am registered blind so that wouldn't help me in the slightest :-)

Maybe I should zip-up these 736 pdf files and upload it somewhere like www.mediafire.com, then post a link here? "notwithstanding that I am registered blind so that wouldn't help me in the slightest :-)" Really? Wow. So you have some narrating or braille system to aid you with reading digital content?

Probably keeping them safe offline would be the best way of safeguarding them. Indeed, narration packages left, right and centre, actually bing also has a really good read aloud feature and a 27 inch monitor with text as small as I can manage, so huge by everyone else's standards. I even walk around with an effing white stick, yawn. You won't really catch me doing much photo analysis though, but I can still tell Jessica Alba and Taylor Swift are actually women and like Miles says I am willing to put that one to the test any time they are ready.

Understood, we all do our best, within our limitations. You already demonstrated your keen hearing analysis, in the T(ranny) video topic. Looking forward to read about the touch analysis of miss Alba and miss Swift.

That site is by Rae West, the "re-revisionist" historian. Miles once remarked about him he couldn't figure him out, spook or just bonkers, too critical, or I don't know what. At least they're not close friends, Rae is always complaining Miles doesn't answer his e-mails.
About the printing of the pdf's: I took that remark as a joke, during a discussion on CTTF about how internet would be more and more manipulated and eventually mayby black-out, so the only way to be save would be to print all Miles writings on paper and put it in your safe.

Gijs That rings a bell, I do recall thinking what the guy who had the site was writing was impenetrable and it either looked like deliberate distraction or schizophrenia. Luckily the search seems to be a useful services. And, yes, the printing thing rings an even duller bell which is entirely a function of the dullness of my mind. In your opinion is Ray' site worth a read or will it send me completely round the twist.
